“Sometimes when you’re in a dark place you think you’ve been buried, but you’ve actually been planted.” – Christine Caine
“Optimism. It’s not just a mindset, it is behavior.” – Larry Elder
“The essence of optimism is that it takes no account of the present, but it is a source of inspiration, of vitality and hope where others have resigned; it enables a man to hold his head high, to claim the future for himself and not to abandon it to his enemy.” – Dietrich Bonhoeffer
Being optimistic means that you are a person who believes in the good, the best outcome, and maintains hope, You are a person who typically is confident and believes in a favored outcome. One that is positive. One who maintains a perspective that good overcomes evil and regardless of the situation presented there is a positive perspective to be gleaned.
Unfortunately, I would not personally classify myself as an optimist. I am an encourager, and desire to uplift others; but personally, in my own situations, I may not think the best first or consistently! I do, however, have optimists in my life and they are a breath of fresh air. They are pleasant to be around, and they offer opinions and insight that sustain hope and fuel confidence!
Take another quick glance at the quotes provided (and there are many on the topic, perhaps you have a favorite of your own). There are (3) keys for me: thoughts, behaviors, and results. Optimism requires different thinking and challenging old mindsets. Optimism is observed in behaviors. Optimism is fueled by hope and belief and works toward a favorable result or outcome. What are we thinking? What are we speaking? How are we behaving? Are the results and outcomes of our lives indicative of hope and favor or despair and negativity? This week be a person of optimism for yourself and for others. Be sensitive and aware of your thoughts, opinions, words, and behaviors. Are we bringing hope to the conversation? Are we challenging negative thoughts? Are we elevating expectations? Are we sharing what is possible vs. declaring the impossible? My personal go-to for encouragement, confidence, hope, and optimism is the Word of God. Various scriptures become my source of hope and optimism in various scenarios and circumstances that I then share with others. Are you a resource? How do you replenish so that your hope is established and you remain a source of optimism for others? I dare you to plant seeds of optimism in others this week! Let's restore hope one conversation at a time. Romans 12:12 - Be joyful in hope (MINDSET), patient in affliction (BEHAVIOR), faithful in prayer (RESULTS).
